You might be better to inquire with the local highway patrol, and aks them what they do when you skip a weight station, driving a commercial truck, while towing your family trailer on vacation. Once you retire, and have 'Not For Hire' printed in three locations on the truck, and no DOT stickers or regerstration as a commercial truck, then I think you can tow your personal trailer without stopping at the weight stations, or worry about keeping the logbook. I think it would be safe to keep your log book current, even when towing your trailer for personal use. How will the guy working the scales know if your trailer is being moved for hire, or if you are taking a vacation, and driving a commercial vehicle with DOT numbers, and so on. I have also seen daully trucks pulling 5th wheel/gooseneck trailers both emty and full waitng to go through the scale. I would think they could have an issue if you were driving with an overloaded trailer.

Was wondering if when pulling my TT i would need to stop at a weight/check scale when it is open? I plan on asking the next time i stop at one but thought i'd ask here.
